From it's opening
in 1922 to the present day, the Lincoln Theatre with its 1,260
seats has been a symbol of the vibrancy and cultural influence
of the African-American community in Washington, DC. As part
of Phase II of a renovation project that began in 1994, Nelson
Architects is serving as architect and owner's representative
for the renovation of the Theatre's façade and interior
systems upgrade.

This project includes the restoration and repair of the
entrance façade, the modification of the existing
storefronts, the recreation of the original blade sign, the
design and installation of a new retractable display banner
and changeable marquee and the restoration of display boxes.
In addition, Nelson Architects was responsible for
coordination with the Historic Preservation Department, the
preparation and review of bid materials, coordination of
signage with a design/build firm and oversight of the project
during the construction.
